Copyright &DMCA Policy
Last updated: August 29, 2026
We publish original writing and cite third-party sources. If you believe something on this site infringes your copyright, here is exactly how to tell us.
Our Commitment to Copyright
UpFuel (accessible at https://upfuel.online) publishes original guides, explainers, data tables and graphics about indoor fuel use, combustion and heating safety. We respect the intellectual property rights of others, and we expect our users to do the same.
Almost everything on this Site is written and made by us. Where we draw on other people's work, we do so in limited ways that we believe are permitted: citing published standards and safety guidance by title and publisher, quoting short passages with attribution for commentary and education, and reproducing factual data such as calorific values or emissions coefficients, which are not themselves copyrightable, with a link to the source.
We can still get things wrong. If you are a copyright owner (or an agent acting on their behalf) and you believe material on UpFuel infringes your copyright, this page explains how to notify us so we can review and, where appropriate, remove it.
We respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512.
How to File a Copyright (DMCA) Takedown Notice
If you believe your copyrighted work has been copied and made available on UpFuel in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please send a written notice to our Designated Copyright Agent (contact details below). To be effective under the DMCA, your notice must include substantially all of the following (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)):
- Your signature. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work. A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed. If multiple works are involved, you may provide a representative list.
- Identification of the infringing material. A description of the material you claim is infringing, together with information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it on our Site — ideally the exact URL(s) of the page(s) in question.
- Your contact information. Information reasonably sufficient for us to contact you, such as your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A good-faith statement. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement of accuracy and authority, under penalty of perjury. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Please send your notice to our Designated Agent:
Designated Copyright Agent — UpFuel Email: editors@upfuel.online (Please include "DMCA Notice" in the subject line.)
A note before you send a formal notice. If you simply want to raise a concern or ask a question about how your material has been used or cited, you are welcome to email us first at editors@upfuel.online. We take these messages seriously and can usually resolve them quickly and informally — often faster than a formal notice. Please also consider whether the use may be permitted by law, for example as fair use under 17 U.S.C. § 107, or because the material is factual data rather than protected expression. Knowingly materially misrepresenting that material is infringing can expose you to liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), including damages and attorneys' fees.
What We Do When We Receive a Valid Notice
Upon receiving a notice that substantially complies with the DMCA requirements above, we will act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material identified in the notice. Where the material was provided to us by someone else, we will make a good-faith effort to notify that person so they may submit a counter-notification. We may also keep a record of notices we receive.
Because virtually all content on UpFuel is written and published by us rather than uploaded by third-party users, in most cases we will simply review the claim ourselves and remove or rewrite the material if there is any legitimate doubt.
Counter-Notification
If you submitted content that was removed or disabled as a result of a DMCA notice, and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send us a counter-notification. To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3), your counter-notification must include substantially the following:
- Your signature. A physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the removed material. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled, and the location (URL) at which it appeared before it was removed.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your contact information — your name, address, and telephone number.
- A consent-to-jurisdiction statement — a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which UpFuel may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original DMCA notice (or their agent).
Send counter-notifications to the same Designated Agent above. If we receive a valid counter-notification, we may restore the removed material no sooner than 10, and no later than 14, business days after receipt, unless our agent first receives notice that the original complainant has filed a court action seeking to restrain the allegedly infringing activity.
Repeat-Infringer Policy
In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), UpFuel has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the access of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright. We may also remove any material and restrict access at our discretion, with or without notice.
Use of Our Content
The reverse case comes up often enough to state plainly. Our guides, graphics and data tables are our work. You are welcome to quote short excerpts with clear attribution and a link to the source page, and to use our machine-readable endpoints — /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt, /api/posts.json and the markdown copy of each guide — for research, indexing and AI applications.
We ask two things in return: attribute UpFuel with a link, and preserve the safety conditions attached to any figure you quote. In this subject, a number stripped of its conditions is not a shortened quote — it is a different and potentially dangerous claim.
Republishing whole guides, or substantial parts of them, requires our written permission. If you would like to syndicate or translate our material, email us — we are usually happy to say yes.
Trademark and Other Concerns
This policy addresses copyright. If you have a concern about a trademark, privacy, defamation or other non-copyright matter, please contact us at editors@upfuel.online and describe your concern.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this DMCA & Copyright Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
